Mountain Springs Golf & Country Club Review

Mountain Springs Golf & Country Club Review Sonora California 378-2

Opened in 1990, Mountain Springs Golf and Country Club is 18 hole public golf course located just outside of Sonora in California’s Gold Country. Weaving through the area’s golden hills, the course offers a creative concept and open design that demands golfers to make a plethora of accurate as well as blind shots. Unfortunately playing conditions can be hit or miss making Mountain Springs anything but a destination course and one only mildly worthy of a stop for those passing through the area.

Driving Range
Mountain Spring’s easterly facing matted driving range is situated on the top of the main hill overlooking the course.  Less than 300 yards in depth with a dramatic fall off to the landing area, the range is adequate for warming up but far from ideal for extended practice sessions (particularly when working on distances).

Putting Green
Two medium-sized putting greens are located between the Clubhouse and Pro Shop.  The greens can accommodate multiple golfers, are good for extended practice sessions, but aren’t necessarily representational of the slop changes found on the course.

Design & Layout
Weaving through the hills of California’s Gold Country, Mountain Springs offers a creative concept and open design that demands golfers to make a plethora of accurate as well as blind shots.  The course is harmlessly Continue reading

Glendale Golf Course Review

Glendale Golf Course Review Salt Lake City Utah 1852

Combining views of the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains, Glendale is one of the more low key and enjoyable golfing experiences in Salt Lake City. Built in 1973, this 18 hole public course offers large wonderfully maintained greens with lake and wetland lined fairways that attract an abundance of waterfowl. Flat and forgiving, Glendale’s difficultly is typically elevated by the direction and severity of the wind making some of the easiest of holes the most difficult.

Driving Range
Glendale offers an expansive all grass north facing driving range that is nearly 350 yards in depth and surrounded by netting.  With multiple aiming targets, the range is ideal for warmups or extended practice sessions.  Arguably the best range in the SLC system.

Putting Greens
There are two large putting greens at Glendale located on each side of the clubhouse.  Typically only one green is open at a time, but each is representative of the conditions found on the course and can accommodate multiple golfers.  The greens are also solid for chipping practice sessions.

Teton Reserve Golf Course

Teton Reserve Golf Course Review Victor Idaho 8050

Located on the back side of the Teton Mountain Range and just north of Victor, Idaho is Teton Reserve, an 18 hole Hale Irwin designed course. Open to the public, Teton Reserve expansively saunters thru the tall grass of the flat valley floor with a challenging and atheistically appealing design. During the prime season the course’s greens are typically in impeccable condition, making it not only a great golf experience in the Teton/Jackson area, but a exceptional value for a public course.

Driving Range
The 500 yards deep and expansive the all grass driving range is set up in a southerly direction, meaning the golfers will have to deal with head or right to left winds (when present).  There are an adequate number of accurate distance and visual targets making the range excellent for extend practice sessions or short warm ups.

Putting Green and Bunker
A large putting green is located next to the range that can accommodate multiple golfers.  The green is flatter than the conditions found on the course, but is nonetheless representative of the speed. Neighboring the green is a large practice bunker with multiple pins for fine tuning one’s sand game.

Douglas Community Golf Club Review

Douglas Golf Club Wyoming Review IMG_6153

Located along I-25 in central Wyoming is the quiet public/community 18 hole course of Douglas Golf Club.  With a design emanating from and around the hill the clubhouse sits on, the course has a short and tempting layout.  Varying slopes and elevation changes offer up mild risks but great rewards for aggressive play amidst fairways lined with mid-to-fully developed trees. Playing conditions are typically average for a public course and Douglas overall a pleasant golfing experience.

Driving Range
Located on the east side of the hilltop parking lot on a downward slope is Douglas’ driving range.  Limited in distance to 280 yards with a 60 foot drop off, the open and wide range is only ideal for golfers with a top end range of around 240 yards. That said effective warm ups and short range practice sessions can be had.

Putting Greens
To the west side of Pro Shop are both of Douglas’ putting greens and practice bunker.  Each is representative of the conditions found on the course with the northern green being more ideal for extended practice sessions.

Riverbend Golf Course Review

Part of Salt Lake County network of courses, Riverbend Golf Course was built in 1994 and is semi-links style course situated above and along the banks of the Jordan River.  The course is a mixture of illusionary challenging tee shots and undulating greens that tend to run quick.  Best played during the summer and fall months, Riverbend is a pleasant and affordable golf experience in the south end of the Salt Lake Valley.

Washoe Golf Course Review

Situated on the west side of Reno and overlooking the Reno/Spark area Washoe Golf Course offers one of the best value golf experiences in the Northern Nevada region.  The nearly 100 year-old course is simplistic enough for the novice/average golfer and challenging enough for the advanced golfer to enjoy.  The small well kept greens tend to be some of the quickest in the Reno/Sparks area, which can make even the most basically designed holes interesting.

Practice Area

Washoe Golf Course has a slightly elevated all mat driving range which faces in a northerly direction.   While somewhat open with a plethora of targets for aiming, the range’s limited depth of 240-310 yards restricts club usage for longer hitters.  The range is partially shaded allowing for a cooler practice or warm-up area during the summer months.

An expansive putting green is located on the south side of the clubhouse.  The green is representative of conditions found on the course, can accommodate multiple golfers, and is  solid for extended putting and chipping practice.
