D’Andrea Golf Course Review

D’Andrea is currently closed due to financial issues

Built in 2000, D’Andrea is an 18 hole public golf course situated in the easterly hills overlooking the Reno/Spark Valley.  The course is a curious combination of beautifully and ill-conceived holes that weave through a developed and undeveloped housing community.  The varying winds and course conditions at D’Andrea make the course either an enjoyable or frustrating golf experience.

Practice Area

D’Andrea offers an expansive elevated south-east facing matted and grass driving range.  Open to the cross winds the range is located in a bowl and lacks solid targets to aim at.

A large putting and chipping green are found next to the driving range.  Conditions are fairly representational of conditions found on the course and both greens can accommodate multiple golfers.

The Course

A curious combination of beautifully and ill-conceived holes that weave through a developed and undeveloped housing community, D’Andrea Golf Club is the course with the most confused identity in the Reno/Sparks area.  Working its way up and down a cut out in the hills, the course can be Continue reading

Wolf Run Golf Club Review

Former home of the University of Nevada Wolf Pack golf team, Wolf Run offers one of the more tempting layouts in the Reno/Sparks Valley area. The course presents a balance of all or nothing Par 4′s, finesse driven Par 3′s, and potentially low scoring Par 5′s.   Though always a challenge, unfortunately Wolf Run is seldom worth paying full price for as the course can be hit or miss golfing experience.

Wolf Run Golf Course offers a matted south facing driving range along the ridge slope towards the valley floor. The range is open air, has limited distance markers, is lacking in targets, and has a maximum range of 315 yards.

An expansive putting green is located on the east side of the pro shop.  The green is fairly representational of the conditions found on the course and can accommodate multiple golfers.  A small chipping and bunkers green is also available next to the driving range.

Lakeridge Golf Course Review

Tucked in the hills on the west side of Reno, Nevada is Lakeridge Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design.   The course offers golfers a short, but challenging layout that weaves through the surrounding housing development and includes the best scenic viewpoint of the surrounding area…the Par 3 15th hole.  Consistently the best course for playing conditions in the entire valley, Lakeridge a must play for visitors or residents of the Reno/Sparks area.

Practice Area

Lakeridge has an open easterly facing driving range that allows the golfer to hit into a slight up slop.  Open to the elements, which includes a mostly helping wind, the range allows for both matted and grass practicing.  Though nothing exceptional, the range provides ample space for practicing with accurate ranges.

Two putting and chipping greens are available to all patrons around the first tee and ninth green, providing adequate space for practice or warmups.  The practice greens are fairly representational of the conditions on the course with comparative green speeds.

The Course

Tucked in the hills on the west side of Reno is Lakeside Golf Course, offering one of the more compelling balance of challenging golf holes and vista viewpoints in the Reno/Sparks Valley. The front nine holes meanders Continue reading
